Today was one of those days that I will look back on and laugh. I decided that I should paint my room. And my desire was sooner rather than later, because....... well....... I am an impatient person. The room I have always shared with my sister was in dire need of change. When I was itty bitty I had an obsession with Disney Princesses. And as a result, the room has been princess pink for about 10 years. Seeing as I have grown out of that obsession (my heart now belongs with Captain America and Doctor Who) you could understand my eagerness to paint it.
So first thing today was a trip to Home Depot, and right to the paint section. Going to pick a paint seemed like seeking a cure for world hunger. Why are there sooooo many colors. I had no idea that there could be a trillion shades of light blue. I mean I don't understand how people were able to just walk up to the "great color wall" and select a color within 2 minutes. It felt like I was there for hours! And after making what felt like a monumental decision with my color, I discovered you still have to select a paint. Do you want matte or eggshell, interior, primer base 1 or 2. Ahh, why must there be so many decisions! At the end of it all, I came out with a really elegant pale blue. I arrived home eventually and got started. And well.....it was an extremely funny day.
After some long hours of painting, I decided I needed to share with you what I learned. So here it is, hope you enjoy!
When it comes to ladders, I am apparently like a cat, I have nine lives. Though I think I only have about two left. It's amazing I am still alive. Ladders can be very wobbly (and not just with tim-y whimy stuff!). When it came down to it, decisions where made. And in regards to saving the carpet, well it was it or me! I wonder if paint stains ever come out?
Somehow amongst all the chaos going on, a wasp managed to get through the door, all the way down the hall and take refuge in my room. Evidently they like pink better than blue, as he only stayed on that color. It is possible to have a peaceful wasp (likely because of paint fumes, but I am not complaining). So I figured if he was going to stay for a while he should have a name. And thus he was dubbed Rupert! He and I coexisted for three whole hours. Sadly his demise was necessary and eventually happened when the fourth person who attempted finally succeeded in hitting him with a shoe. R.I.P. Rupert!
I am apparently a very, very messy painter (according to my mom, who is probably right!). So I guess painting is not something I will be pursuing as a profession. Likely because it also took me 3 times longer than any normal person.
So day one is complete. Now to move all the furniture back and finish decorating. I am sure more funny stories are yet to come! Hang tight for Day Two!
